Overcoming Obstacles

I will be writing about moving to United States. I had to overcome many obstacles during that time. First time in my life I had to ride in an airplane across the Ocean, it took about ten hours to get here from Poland. Some of these obstacles were that I had to leave my friends and grandparents. I can not visit them whenever I want, I only can visit them once a year. Moving here was a difficult because I also had to go to American High School and everything was in English. Through overcoming my obstacle I gained more respect from my family, more courage and also gained more self – confidence.

I really wondered how it is like to live in United State, and go to a different school. I lived in Poland for 14 years and moved here with my family one year ago. We had to move because of my stepfather’s job. I was really excited and also really nervous, I did not know what to expect. Everything turned out good for me, I like the school here, I have friends and much more opportunities here than in Poland.

When I was about to arrive in United States, I knew that everything is going to be different, and had to be prepared for a change. During my flight I was not able to see a lot, most of the time I saw only clouds. One of the first things that I saw in United States was these wide, long highways. I also saw many different cars that I have never seen before, I only read about them in magazines. What did I smell and touched? Dollars!!! When we came here, I wanted to go to every restaurant and taste different food. Now I know that McDonalds taste the same as in Europe. I had the chance to taste the delicious pizza in Bertucci’s and great salad in Olive Garden. Coming to United States made me study English very hard, so I would be able to communicate with people.

We had to buy a dictionary so I could do my homework, and it also helped me on quizzes when I did not understand a particular word. Some of the problems that I encountered were that I did not have Polish television. One of the bigger problems was that I did not have a friend to play soccer, because soccer is not really popular sport here. I had to talk to my friends and ask them if they know anybody that played soccer. Now I play soccer mostly on Saturdays. I got hooked up with my friend’s team. My parents were happy that I don’t stay home all day and play video games. I am really happy to live here and enjoy playing soccer.

I got used to living in United States pretty quickly. I speak a lot more English than when I first came here. I look forward to have an excellent life in United States, and expect a lot of new adventures. I just need to be open – minded and not be afraid to try new things.
